Nikon has finally implemented the much more secure hood lock that we've seen in the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. Weather Sealing Just like the lens it replaces, the new 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II features weather sealing throughout the lens body, including a rubber seal at the lens mount.
I know that the quality of those lenses is very good regardless of the brand. Tamron and Nikon have VR versions now, and Sigma is about to release its f/2.8 VR version (which I'm holding out for). I can't justify the cost of Nikon's 14-24 or Tamron's 15-30 in addition to a w/a event lens (24-70ish). But I still need a serious landscape lens Expert news, reviews and videos of the latest digital cameras, lenses, accessories, and phones. My 24-70 2.8 S for the Z7 arrived Thursday at my local store YM Camera in Youngstown Ohio. Nikon hit it out of the park with this one. The focus is unbelievably fast and the images are tack sharp throughout the the zoom range. At F2.8 indoors low light the corners and edges perfect. Outdoors it preforms perfectly.

Nikon D750, 100% crop, 70 mm@f2.8, left Nikkor 24-70G, right Tamron 24-70 G2. G version of Nikon lens slightly outperforms new VR version in central sharpness (except of 24mm in this comparison). The difference is most pronounced at 70mm. Where VR version shines above all 20-70s is edge of frame.
Like the 16-85mm before it, the 16-80mm f/2.8-4 isn’t a big lens, all things considered. It seems appropriately downsized for DX. Compared to the 24-120mm f/4 FX zoom it most directly compares to for FX, it’s 0.7” (17.5mm) shorter and almost 9 ounces (230g) lighter. This is exactly what we wanted from Nikon, frankly.
To further enhance its low-light capability, the new NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4 lens also features Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization technology, which provides up to 4 stops of

Although it has not the same large aperture it offers a slightly longer reach and has Nikon’s image stabilization VR that should make-up for 2-3 stops easily. It also brings up the rear price-wise at around 500 EUR (incl. 19% VAT) while the Tamron is at 1000 EUR and the Nikon at 1500 EUR. Two 24-70mm f/2.8 zooms for Nikon DSLRs. Tamron SP 24
