Dolomites: Busy Monday morning saw us set off on time in the direction of Passo Gardena, where a breathtaking panorama made a brisk ascent more enjoyable. The second weekend will be a drive from West of Milan to a small town at the foot of the Dolomites called Frisanco, staying 1 or 2 nights. We then will drive to Merano to do more research and spend two nights. My hope is to then hit the famed Stelvio Pass in the morning on a Monday. The drive looks incredible! The truth is, while the Stelvio isn’t perfect (or even the best) mountain pass in the Alps, it is still an exhilarating ride and a marvel of engineering. Rising 1,871m from the start to its highest point (which sits at an altitude of 2,757m), the Stelvio Pass is the second highest mountain road in the Alps. Stelvio Pass. Enjoy this 31.0-mile out-and-back trail near Prato allo Stelvio, South Tyrol. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for road biking, scenic driving, and bike touring, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October.
